Review: Antoo Fighter

All right, time for another movie review. Today (1/12/2008), i went to watch the movie Antoo Fighter, Ghosbusters of Malaysia with my friends, Mr Fazly and Mr Azizul. This movie was actually scheduled to release on December of 2007. There's some technical problems and one of the actor passed away, so its been delayed until December of this year (2008). Let's review the movie, Antoo Fighter.

A group of ghostly creatures from the past led by Drakulat Van Listerooy returns to the present time terrorizing and dominating the town after they had escaped from a group sworn to fight against evil spirits in the past. Drakulat and his ghost journeyed from their place to Kuala Lumpur and conquered the KL Tower and made it as its headquarters.

There they began to destroy the city till it brought the whole nation to a dangerous state. The main objective of Drakulat is actually to free Lord Sharon, satan's spawn, so they could conquer and destroy the whole world together. In order to make it all happen he needs to locate the chosen girl, Delyla, who carries the blood line of having extraordinary powers and becoming the perfect sacrificial victim to Lord Sharon an freeing him to the world. Antoofighter is a top secret group consisting of 5 chosen people on earth to protect the world from evil spirits every 60 years.

Antoo Fighters was written and directed by Azizi “Chunk” Adnan who makes his directorial film debut. The first time i watch the trailer, its look promising with lots of CGI (Computer Generated Image) effects been used in the movie. I doesn't put high hopes in this movie. But the CGI turned up to be pretty good in this movie. But it still cannot match of those in Cicak-Man and still far away from the original movie that's inspiring the creation of this movie, The Ghostbusters. There are in some scene, the inserted special effect are not matching up with the scene.

Ghostbusters

The story line is kind of so-so and plain. There is no suspend or thrilling scene that can make the audience amaze. The audience can guess what will happen on the next scene. The cast is good especially Awie who played as the winged demon Drakulat Van Listerooy. He really is suitable for the character with his fierce looking face and muscled body.

There are a lot of jokes in this movie but i found out that its all lame jokes and not funny at all. They even repeating the old jokes made by the late P.Ramlee.

Well, its nice to see some fresh new ideas of sci-fi movie here in Malaysia since most of the movies made in Malaysia are love theme, stupid lame jokes, corruption, illegal car/motorcycle racing, and horror which we already bored of. I think they should create more sci-fi movie here in Malaysia since they already have the technology to create 3D images. There's another sci-fi movie made in Malaysia coming up, and it look mighty promising the sequel of Cicak-Man, Cicak-Man 2:Planet Hitam (Black Planet).

I gave this movie, 1 star out of 5.

well... each person have their own opinion and their point of view on how they view things. to me, this movie is just a typical malaysia movie with a lot of lame jokes that didn't really works for me. if they make the story line more serious, and more actions instead of plain story line and stupid lame jokes, it'll be more fun to watch. i say i'll be rather watching the old XX-Ray movies instead of this. well, lets see what cicak-man 2 can do. then i'll give my review.
